Here we are, my first 20 day update. So far, I’m feeling great! The first few days were rough. I was traveling and didn’t eat my normal Paleo diet, so jumping into a Whole100 was not easy. It was like my body was detoxing; I was in a bad mood, I had a strange headache, and my immune system was shutting down before I had even started day 1. I was even craving foods I don’t normally eat. I wanted frozen yogurt, ice cream, and chocolate!
My daughter and I were traveling while my husband was away for work. When we met up at the airpot, we were all sick. I made some turkey bone broth a few months ago that I saved in the freezer. Chicken thighs, vegetables, herbs and bone broth made for the best medicine. The soup was so good that it was requested for dinner the next day.
As far as fitness, I’m already starting to see muscle definition since I’ve upped my workout regiment. I found my abs on day 9, making it the most amazing non-scale victory for me. This time, I didn’t weigh myself, take my measurements or take a before picture because the number on the scale is not important to me anymore. Muscle weighs more than fat and I feel like I have gained more muscle and lost more fat in the last several weeks.
Before my Whole100, I drank a protein smoothie after my morning workout using Naked Whey protein. Since it is not compliant, I am eating my protein instead. My favorite post-workout meal has been my protein salad. Since summer fruits are in abundance, I love adding fresh fruit to my salads. I have a batch of homemade mayonnaise in the fridge to make tuna salad that I like to eat with with sliced vegetables or an apple.
My husband was out of the country traveling for work for the majority of these 20 days. When he’s away, I notice myself eating less and my body feels satisfied with very little food. When he’s here, he tends to bring out the foodie in me! After the first week, I started feeling normal again and the cravings started going away. My sugar dragon would creep in every once in a while but I kicked it in the face!
I keep dinner simple when it’s just me and my toddler. Some quick dinner for us is grilled chicken and steamed broccoli, hashwet ruz, taco seasoned chicken and guacamole on a bed of cauliflower rice, roasted chicken legs and vegetables, Paleo chicken strips and potato wedges. Some nights I had a loaded protein salad while my little one had leftovers.
I toasted some raw almonds for a quick snack or to add on top of salads. I also love cashew and almond butter for a quick pick-me-up. Since I can only drink water, I treat myself to a La Croix in the evenings. My new favorite flavor is Pomme Bayá.
Are you on the Whole30 now? If so, what day are you on and how are you feeling?
